The Black & White Room
The Black & White Room serves a dual purpose as both a gallery and a dining space for corporate gatherings, creating an atmosphere where art and conversation naturally intersect. Anchoring the room is a striking wall of Max Taylor prints, arranged around a Dave Smith painting that hyper-realistically incorporates Taylor’s imagery, prompting viewers to consider how works addressing oppression and liberation shift meaning when placed in spaces of privilege and comfort. A salon-style wall brings together pieces by Brent Malone, Allan Wallace, Dionne Benjamin-Smith, and others, offering a lively mix of surrealism, abstraction, portraiture, and figuration. Around the room, painted shells by Malia Kinger, a commanding piece by Kendra Frorup, and mixed-media works by Sue Bennett-Williams expand the dialogue of materials and themes. Beaded chairs and embellished horns, collected during the D’Aguilars’ travels, add further texture, making the room not just a showcase of diverse artistic voices but also a layered environment where cultural objects and contemporary art coexist in conversation.
