About Us
The V&M Art Gallery opened its doors in 2023 to provide a permanent home for the private collection of Vincent and Marina D’Aguilar, whose legacy continues through the D’Aguilar Art Foundation, directed by Saskia D’Aguilar. The gallery was purpose-built on a hill to withstand hurricanes and avoid flooding, ensuring the long-term preservation of the collection with climate control and expanded storage. This new two-story complex follows the Foundation’s original gallery, which opened downtown in 2008 and safeguarded much of the collection in its basement and behind its walls. After Hurricane Dorian, the Foundation recognized the need for a more resilient and sustainable space, leading to the creation of the V&M.
Today, the gallery features multiple themed rooms, including portraiture, Junkanoo, and more, showcasing primarily Bahamian works alongside a selection of international artists. Highlights include approximately 50 original works by Amos Ferguson, as well as significant holdings by Maxwell Taylor and other leading Bahamian artists. The V&M also stewards the Roland Rose archive, entrusted to the Foundation upon his passing; the ongoing archiving and reproduction project supports his widow through its proceeds. In addition to exhibitions, the gallery includes a kitchen and dining area available for corporate rentals, making the V&M not only a cultural landmark but also a versatile gathering space dedicated to the continued celebration and preservation of Bahamian art.
