The Portrait Room
The Portrait Room presents a thoughtful exploration of identity, gender, and generational experience in The Bahamas. One side is dedicated to women, highlighting the lives of Black Bahamian women and portraying both their beauty and the challenges they face, offering an intimate and nuanced view of womanhood. The opposite side focuses on men, with one grouping celebrating established Bahamian male artists such as Antonius Roberts, John Cox, and Jackson Burnside, while another grouping reflects the experiences of younger Bahamian men, capturing the energy, ambition, and evolving identities of a new generation. Together, the room invites viewers to consider the diverse experiences and expressions of Bahamian life across gender and age.
